He began his television career as a business and then investigative reporter for KNSD-TV (NBC affiliate) in San Diego from February 1987 to January 1990.

Bill began his career in print journalism in 1972. He served as a reporter and then business editor of the San Diego County edition of The Los Angeles Times from February 1984 to January 1987. Ritter attended San Diego State University from 1968-1972. He was kicked out of school for demonstrating against the Vietnam War. Forty years later he went back to college, graduating from The New School in May, 2016.

Please join Bill and the Wings family on October 26, 2017 to unlock the cure for ALS

Comprehensive Edaravone Clinical Program Data Published

Wings Presenting Sponsor, Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma America, Inc. has made its groundbreaking Edaravone study available to researchers.  Edaravone, sold under the Radicava and Radicut names, is the first ALS drug approved by the FDA in 15 years.

Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma America, Inc. today announced that the comprehensive clinical development program data for edaravone in the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) have been published as a supplement to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Frontotemporal Degeneration (ALSFTD), a leading journal for ALS and FTD research.

The supplement, Edaravone in ALS, provides ALS specialists and researchers a full review of edaravone's 13-year clinical development program, offering a comprehensive overview of the rationale and progression by which researchers were able to demonstrate edaravone's clinical benefit. In a therapeutic arena as devastating and difficult as ALS, which has been challenged by negative trials for many therapeutic agents, key learnings from this development program may be applicable to other future ALS clinical research.

Edaravone in ALS provides valuable insight into the process by which the sponsor conducted an extensive 13-year clinical development program leading to approval for patients in Japan and South Korea in 2015 – and the United Statesin 2017.

A Big Night With Mr. Wonderful

One of the most impressive auction items of Wings Over Wall Street's 2016 Gala was the opportunity to have dinner with Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary. The auction was held online and a computer was on hand at the Wings Gala so bidders at the event could join in. While it started off slow, the bidding took off and Wings benefitted from an unbelievable winning bid of $34,000.

What is even more unbelieveable is that the winning bidder was Alex Edson, the18-year old CEO of Power TV. Alex, who was happy to support Wings and its mission to unlock the cure for ALS, also was hoping to land Kevin as a strategic partner. We don't know the outcome, but they had a great dinner at Ocean Prime recently and both enjoyed the experience. Special thanks to Wings Chair Jon Najarian for making it happen.

AFA-CWA Supports Wings 2016

2016 Wings Over Wall Street - October 27, 2016
AFA Members, Toni Diamond and Warren Schiffer, became founders of the extraordinary benefit, "Wings Over Wall Street" when Toni was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.  They turned their greatest challenge into inspiring work to fight ALS through research funded by the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  In 2004 we lost Toni, our flying partner, but her care-giver husband, Warren, continues to work in her memory.

This year the benefit is scheduled for October 27, 2016 from 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm at The Lighthouse, Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers in New York City.

A Note from Warren
To my fellow Flight Attendants,

As we embark on unifying our ranks and standing together as one group with shared aspirations for a professional, prosperous, and safety oriented future, I am really excited to see how great our combined efforts can positively impact our careers going forward.

Standing together as one, with passion and commitment, is what Wings has been focused on. I am humbled and so proud to have the opportunity to tell you about the upcoming 16 Annual MDA'S Wings Over Wall Street Gala event, which takes place October 27th, 2016 at The Lighthouse - Pier Sixty-One - Chelsea Piers in NYC.

This year, our goal is to Unlock the Cure for ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.  Why am I involved with ALS?  For those who don’t know, my late wife, and United Flight Attendant, Toni Diamond, was diagnosed and later died from this horrible disease.  She and I cofounded MDA'S Wings Over Wall Street in 2001 as a way to fund ALS research, which still remains underfunded today.  Over the last 15 years, with the support of our United family, Wings has raised almost $11 million for ALS research.

Frankly, I never thought that 16 years later I would need to come back to you asking for help. The reality is that people are still dying every day from ALS, and, while significant progress has been made, we still have more work to do to Unlock The Cure for ALS. I am confident that with your support, we will achieve Toni’s dream of a world without ALS.  She knew that she wouldn’t be around to see it, but that she could count on me to continue her fight after she was gone.  I knew that her fellow Flight Attendants wouldn’t let her down either.

Finally, if you are going to be in NY on 10/27, but are unable to purchase a ticket, I invite you to become a Wings volunteer for the night. You'll need to be available from approximately 4 PM - 10 PM. It would be greatly appreciated and I know you'll have a great night. Please contact Alyssa Keenan akeenan@mdausa.org.

Thank you for considering this request, and fly safely.

Gratefully yours,
Warren Schiffer, EWRSW
